Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a tropical south asian island country in the Indian ocean, southwest of Bay of Bengal and southeast of Arabian sea. Sinhalese and Tamil are notable ethnics of this country. It boasts a recorded history of its native tribe and Sinhalese civilization. Generations of Arab, Malay, Portuguese, Dutch and British settlers subtly transformed its tradition, structure and delicacies. It is packed with extraordinary beaches, tropical forest, safari excursions, mist blanketed highlands draped with carpets of tea farm, rain forests, cave temples, fortress, arid plains, marine parks, spiritual health treats, gemstones, ancient heritage and culture and tons of excursions that makes it a magnetic land. The capital city – Colombo is an urban center of the nation. One may enjoy the Lotus tower in Colombo or visit Pinnawala elephant orphanage to help elephants. Other excursions may include leopard safari at Yala national park or trekking a pilgrim trail to the summit of Adam’s peak. Lush tea gardens, golden seashores, chirpy environs, dense forests and a potpourri of chaotic and soothing places, Sri Lanka is just that! Moving on from the polished metropolis life, Sri Lanka’s unique attractions make it a paradise on earth. Nuwara Eliya is the country’s lush green hill station, once a summer retreat of colonizers, and is a town in the tea hills of Sri Lanka. The Hakgala botanical gardens has roses and tree ferns whereas it shelters monkeys and blue magpies. Close by Seetha Amman temple, a colorful hindu shrine is embellished with religious figures. Often called ‘Lanka’, it is also mentioned in a hindu tale ‘Ramayana’ as a kingdom of Ravana, where lord Rama and Hanuman (Monkey god) reached to rescue Sita. Densely forested Galway’s Land national park is a sanctuary for endemic and migratory bird species, including bulbuls and flycatchers. Kandy is another hill town, known for its tea plantations, rainforest and of course the scenic rail adventure. The town’s heart is scenic Kandy lake (Bogambara lake). Kandy is famed for Buddhist sites, including Sri Dalada Maligawa shrine (Temple of sacred Buddha Tooth Relic) with the grand annual procession – Esala Perahera. The train from Ella to Kandy is considered the most picturesque in the nation. British built the railway system in Sri Lanka back in 19th century for coffee and tea transportation among Colombo and hills. For artwork and history enthusiasts, Polonnaruwa is an absolute place to be. This region houses the ancient ruins of palaces and friezes dating back to 10th century; whereas UNESCO listed Sigiriya is a 5th-century lion rock citadel by King Kashyapa. Be it Dambulla Cave temples or Ceylonese capital Anuradhapura, you will never be disappointed in and around the country. From resplendent seashores, abundant wildlife and rolling hills to a plethora of historical monasteries and tranquil spots, it is truly a marvel. Lapped up by the Indian ocean, the coastline is laced with idyllic beaches, whilst the mainland boasts a heavenly landscape ranging from lowland jungles to the misty highlands swathed in tea plantations. Nobody might argue about the charm and aura of this beautiful island nation.
