Spain
In southwestern Europe, lies Spain, occupying most of the Iberian peninsula, stretching south from Pyrenees mountains to Strait of Gibraltar that separates it from Africa. It is blessed with snow-capped mountains, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, seas, sun-kissed beaches, forests, flora/fauna, golden sands, deserts, gorges, desolate tracts, national parks and so forth. Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Antoni Gaudi are some among the creative spirits this country gave. Ibiza is well known for its lively nightlife, cuisines, electro music fest and summer club scene as a celebration getaway. Catalonia’s capital, Barcelona, is known by whimsical modernist landmark La Sagrada Familia basilica. From Guggenheim museum and throbbing street life of La Rambla & Plaza Mayor to forest of columns & Moorish arch, ancient monuments left by Romans and Moors, medieval castles and white villages in inland Andalucia, Spain is truly fascinating. Spain’s capital city, Madrid, is a city of elegant boulevards, manicured parks, repositories of European art, including Prado museum’s works by Goya, Velazquez and several masters. The heart of Hapsburg Madrid is portico-lined Plaza Mayor, and nearby is baroque royal palace and Armory, showcasing historic weaponry. Palacio Real, La Concha, Aqueduct of Segovia, Cuenca, El Escorial, Mezquita of Cordoba, Alhambra, Seville Cathedral and Alcazar, Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, Grandeur of caliph’s palace, sybaritic sun-drenched Mediterranean beaches, Pyrenees and Picos de Europa mountain range, snowcapped Sierra Nevada, plains of Andalucia, wild cliffs of Spain’s Atlantic northwest, staccato stamp of a flamenco dancer’s heels, cathedral at Santiago de Compostela, Moorish buildings, Spanish Renaissance masterpieces, quirky modern art, tumultuous history, rich culture, lively Barcelona, boisterous Madrid, historic Ronda, colorful Seville, clichés of paella, sangria & and siesta as well as numerous UNESCO sites, it has it all.
